Rooted in Science: Horticulture Matters

Rooted in Science: Horticulture Matters
Event Details

Have you ever watched golf and wondered how they cut the grass so short? Have you wondered how they get the green so smooth the ball rolls along it like carpet? In this interactive workshop we will explain all of this and more as we tell you all about performance standards and what they are.

Have you ever stopped to thinking about what plants grow in and why it matters? Did you know that traditional compost often relies on peat, a natural resource that’s running out and vital for our environment? In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the exciting world of peat free composts and eco-friendly alternatives.

With a focus on the GCSE Applied Science specification, spend some hands-on time with our horticulturists learning about greenkeeping and growing. You’ll learn about surface standards expected by golfers, the ingredients used to create a successful growing mix and how horticulture links to so many things from some of the most exciting moments in sport, to the fruits and vegetables in your fridge.
