Traders, Pilgrims and Vikings on the River Quoile
Join us on a kayaking adventure exploring the tranquil River Quoile as it winds along to Inch Abbey, soaking up the history of the area as you go.
At Jane’s Shore you’ll be kitted out with a wetsuit and buoyancy aid, before being briefed by kayak instructor, Rory Martin. While paddling, you’ll then learn about the historical settlements in the area from Dr Sarah Baccianti – researcher in the literature and history of medieval Scandinavia.
At Inch Abbey you’ll discover the history of the monastic site and hear about the Vikings’ influence before Dr Frances Kane – linguist and researcher in the origins of Northern Ireland’s place names – guides you through the stories behind the local place names.
