Erica McAlister - The Secret (Sex) Lives of Flies
Event Description

Join us for a late night excursion into the secret (sex) lives of flies with entomolologist, Dr Erica McAlister, as we find out about her favourite creatures. Dispelling many common misconceptions about these tiny insects, Erica will share all sorts of fascinating insights about what flies get up to, revealing them as the truly amazing, exotic and important little creatures they really are. Hear about insects with enormous sperm; honey bee mating rituals and more!

About

Erica McAlister is Curator of Diptera at the Natural History Museum, London. All through her life Erica has been interested in the little things - as a child she kept dead mammals to watch the maggots emerging from them and picked fleas off cats to watch them jumping under a microscope. She has studied in France, Australia and Costa Rica, and her work with diptera has taken her all around the world. She presented the popular BBC Radio 4 series Who's the Pest?
